New to the forum, but not to welding, a multi process U,A, pipefitter /pipewelder and in need of a manual for a HOBART G-225-K as it is missing a throttle control for the Kohler K17 gas engine that is on it and i would like to understand how the system should work. rather than run it in wide open throttle at all times like it is "rigged", nice old unit though. Thanks for the help.Last edited by AKAMick; 05-12-2018 at 09:51 PM.

Reply:Put a post on the Hobart Forum. There is a member there Expert Keith. He has so much information on these old Hobart Machines. He will need a serial #.

Reply:I just contacted Hobart by email to request any info they had on my GW2235, they responded within 24 hours with info requested plus additional. Good luck!
Reply:Well i did get the owners manual for the G-225-K, from Hobart, took a couple of requests and submitting the correct information, my information label was unreadable for the most part, but found a label with serial number within the unit. This helps as I am trying to replace the missing speed control, some downloaded pictures and such show the knob and not much detail, i need to get it right to operate at the correct speeds, The unit is 90% except for that and its missing gas tank which now uses a metal marine tank with larger capacity. Where can i obtain the Brushes for this unit, Hobart #402788, do any other models cross with this type, thanks for your help on the manual.
Reply:Still trying to understand the throttle control for this unit, the idle solenoid does not work, the solenoid itself works if i supply power to it, the timer control was suspect so i removed it after cleaning all the contacts in the idle system. The timer control had a bad capacitor on the board, bought a direct replacement but still the idle circuit does not energize, more to the point it controls the ground for the solenoid, the next item is the "current relay" which is not even shown in the parts list diagram, it shown in the schematic though, appears to be a induction ring around a power lead. I think this is supposed to trigger the timer to actuate the solenoid, but it doesn't. Checked all wiring for continuity, all good. If I complete the circuit on the "current relay" it triggers the timer and the solenoid works correctly, I think the "current relay must use a reed switch that reacts to the field in the power lead activated when you strike. The hand throttle system that controls the weld and generator speeds I have not been able to reproduce correctly, though I can operate the micro switch to change between the modes and manually set the speed for the mode to be used. Really need to see a G-225-K with it's throttle intact.Last edited by AKAMick; 05-28-2019 at 11:31 AM.
Reply:If anyone has a Hobart G-225-K model a couple of pics of the throttle linkage at the governor to pull knob would be appreciated, thanks! |
