Hi all - recently purchased a multimatic 215 welder, its an automatice 110v / 230v unit.. automatically detects the power (and has a breaker on the back). Now I wired up a 4 pin locking male plug to a 110v female plug using this diagram - I used the two "hot" leads (Line 1 and 2) to each of the 110v flat pins and the ground since 230v has no neutral.. basically used a 3 wire cord heavy duty appliance cord.

Confirmed getting 230v between the 2 hot leads, however - when I plugged it in to the welder today it wouldnt power on.. plugged it back into 110v and worked fine again - ideas?

Reply:What?? I really have no idea what you are trying to accomplish or why. If you are trying to hook the welder to a 240 generator with L14/30 outlet, just buy one of these. It will plug into your generator and you can plug your 240v cord right into it. I wouldn't mes with the 120V female.  https://www.amazon.com/AC-WORKS-Adap.../dp/B06WD4W2M6Miller Multimatic 255
Reply:Did the unit not come with the MVP adapters?  If it did, just OHM them out to see which prongs of the 120V and 240V adapters match up the machine cord and wire your 4-prong twist lock to 120V receptacle accordingly.MM200 w/Spoolmatic 1Syncrowave 180SDBobcat 225G Plus - LP/NGMUTT Suitcase WirefeederWC-1S/Spoolmatic 1HF-251D-1PakMaster 100XL '68 Red Face Code #6633 projectStar Jet 21-110

Reply:Like Duane said, your unit should come with specific plugs for 120VAC or 240VAC. Cyberweld carries them. You might be able to find them at you LWS, too.
Reply:It came with a 3 pin 20A 230v adapter, was trying to use the 110v to adapt it to the 4 prong locking 30amp on the generator when needed so i dont have to keep swapping plugs around - I just reverse engineer/check from the generator to the 230v miller plug then and see what happens.
Reply:Thats pretty much what I made for $13- including a 6ft length.. tested 230v on both - thats what i was curious about - not much to get wrong there.. basically two hot wires and a ground..

Reply:fwiw this is the miller plug - same as what I was doinghttps://bakersgas.com/products/mille...tercord-301489

Reply:Yeah, but I bet if you checked, the non-twist lock end is a 6/50 R (i.e., 240 volt), NOT a nema 5/15 120v connectionMiller Multimatic 255
