Here’s something I just had to share.  Due to nothing but sheer luck, this morning I was able to save this electric shear from the scrappers. It hadn’t been used in years and a local marine fabrication shop needed the space,  pushed it outside and scheduled the scrap truck to pick up the next day. So ... $300 CA dollars later ($224.28 usd) and under an hour round trip, I had it home. Nice overall shape for a 48 year old Made in China machine.  Blade has no nicks but needs sharpening. 60 inch width of cut.3/16” aluminum, 1/8” SS capacity 5500 pounds 3 HP 3 phase

Reply:Congrats Terry. Do the blades flip over? At least on my stomp shear, they flip over so it may be that yours can flip over and that side may be in good shape or better shape.Millermatic 252 MIGMiller Dynasty 200DX TIGMiller Spectrum 625 PlasmaAltas 12x36 Metal LatheBridgeport Milling Machinewww.psacustomcreations.com

Reply:Looks like your first project is making a belt guard. Do you know if there are any problems with it?
Reply:The foreman said the shear was in working order but “in need of maintenance” and it sat unused because the owner was too cheap to address it. I’m quite certain they had a bigger newer one in their shop. It came with the belt guard. Doesn’t even require body work.

Reply:So sweet! Congratulations on the steel of the year!
Reply:Thanks  V.   I’m kind of embarrassed though. I just had a thought and double checked.  When I first unloaded it, I measured the bed width which is 60” but the width of cut is actually 52”.

Reply:Well that's it, haul it off for scrap.

Reply:I might not get around to setting up the shear until the winter but I thought I should take advantage of the good weather to degrease and wash the underside.

I scoured the surface rust off a spot on the blade and it is indeed flippable. There is at least one good edge available for sure so that is good news. With a little bit of luck it will only require cleaning and set up.
:Good score.  Just be mindful that it is not hydraulic and once you engage the clutch it will follow through its stroke until it returns up.  Think before you press down because you can't stop it mid stroke.

Reply:So yesterday I answered an ad for a fellow looking for a mig gas bottle.  Today I sold him this full 330 cu ft bottle of C25 which MORE than paid for the shear. Some days just seem to go so smooth.....

Edit. Oops forgot the pic And my point being I got a good deal on the shear —- I did NOT overcharge for the bottle.

Reply:What don't you have? Peddinghaus is top of the line in mechanical iron workers and yours look mint! My first welding job at a tank shop they had a 105 ton Peddinghaus 210 Super 20. It was the cats meow but no stopping once you push the pedal or press the button for the punch. I liked the punch because you could lower it onto your center punch mark.

Reply:On the Peddinghaus, you pulled the handle forward and the punch would lower and you could lift the punch up and down to line it up. Then you pushed the button on the end and it punched the hole. Once you release the handle to lower the punch, the only way to reset in the up position is to push the button to punch. Never have to lift anything. Punched a lot of rectangular manways for tanks with it.

It is possible for a private person or company to help us with the completion of the repair. We pay in cash, just the furniture has already been brought and the repair is not yet finished and the furniture is just standing idle. And I want to ask if Mechanical Shear are suitable for cutting logs for making a fence, I am not an expert and I do not know what size you can make a fence. Tell me what the minimum and maximum sizes are, you can roughly tell how large they will be.
