Hey all,Im new here to this forum so to start out i just wanna say thanks in advance for any helpful speak. So,Took me bit of time but now i wanna get myself a big blue 400 and start welding pipe. Im just curious what the web has to say which model of the bb 400 has worked best for people ( the kubota, mitizi, cat) and what years to avoid. I have about 8k to spend and i want every doller to count. Thanks for reading!
Reply:Why a Big Blue 400 for pipe welding?
Reply:Diesel, quiet, price n easy to find used where im at.
Reply:Miller makes a Big Blue 400 Pipe Pro and a Big Blue 400. I'm in Alberta where there are lots of pipeliner's and the big majority run Lincoln generators. Curious if you're already a certified pipe welder or looking at becoming one? As far as engines see who has the best service support in your area. I'd probably lean toward Kubota but talk to welder repair shops.

Reply:Used the prices might be a little closer. 300D and SAE300 are popular choices for pipeliners. Some use Vantage's. Lincoln just seems to have a better arc for downhill pipe welding. It would be good to know a little more about the OP and exactly what he's planning to do. If just starting out may want to consider something like a Ranger 305 that has a downhill pipe mode to mimic an SA200. Once you get established move up to a larger diesel. |
