(sotra carried over from another site)  I ended up buying the saw.  Figgered for $80 I couldn't go too far wrong.  Looks like what I'll be doing first will be some of the ideas borrowed from various sites.  These will be replacing the hex-head bolts that hold the jaws with knobs or tee handles;  bushing the bolt on the rear jaw so it pivots true;  making some sort of clamp to hold small pieces or odd shapes.This should be enough to keep me occupied for a while.............chim

Reply:Chim if the Bs 450 is the same as my HF special change the oil in the gear box. when I checked mine it had a ot of Bronze chips in the oil. I drained, flushed with mineral spirits, cleaned it and filled with new gear lube.

Reply:Finally got around to making a few mods.  Although the saw I bought looks like it would be able to cut more than the "4X6", it is probably the same saw that HF and others sell.  They all look so much alike.  I did do an oil change as recommended.  Fortunately there were no metal chips in the old oil.Since the saw will see its main use cutting 90 and 45 degrees, I found those two angles and scratched the bed of the saw for reference.  No biggie, but handy.Two of the hex head bolts were replaced with knobs.  This makes it nice for changing the angle adjustments.  On the stationary part of the vise, I used 1/2" allthread and a hex nut under the bed.  Since the bed slot is tapered, a 1/2" hex nut fits OK (but not exactly as I'd like).  I need to grab a USE Forway Anchor and steal the tapered nut from it.  I believe this will help it operate a bit more smoothly.  The part seen in the photo is simply a valve handle on a piece of allthread with nuts.  The allthread with 4 flats ground on it works fine.  There are a rod coupling and a nut jammed and red-loctited together at the bottom of the allthread that tighten against the vise jaw.On the moveable jaw, it was handled in a similar manner.  I was able to locate a knob with a threaded rod protruding from it at a hardware store.  The threaded part wasn't long enough, so there's a rod coupling with red loctite to extend it.The 1/2" round rod for the cutoff stop was missing, so I picked up a piece of plain rod and another knob for the adjustment on it.The saw needed a bit of tweaking to cut square in the vertical plane.  Fortunately all that was required was the removal of a tiny round piece of shim someone else had installed.I did pick up a bimetal blade, but haven't installed it yet.  The blade that's on it does a pretty good job, so I assume it probably isn't original equipment.  Good deal for $80 and a trip to the hardware store for some "parts-n-pieces"............................chim Attached Images
