im 15,a beginner and need help welding. "Were to begain".......... I aready have A Hobart Wirefeed  AND A SELF DAMPENING HELMENT, MY DAD IS A MECHANIC. he would help but he has no time right know to help me right know so i thought i would start here.im looking to put a tube frame to geather out of exhaust tubing. please help megarrit

Reply:Garrit, how's it going guy?Listen, an odysey frame type thing is going to be a little complex for the very first anything. A lot of the design should be dictated by the engine size and type as well as drive train and tires/wheels and so-on.  For some of these details you should really have them in hand or have a set of plans. Can you get your hands on a set of plans? Other hurdles will include some fairly extensive bending and complex cutting. Most of a project like this would really be best if you had a constant helper/partner. Then there is the cash layout for the operating components to make this come to fruit. It would be ideal for you to see it running and in use for the finale. Maybe you could start with something just a little less in cost and simpler as a starter? Maybe a cart for your welder. Those are almost a must anyway. I've seen one or two neat looking ones during the last hunting season or two. More like a long quad that you can set down in. Looked good to me. They had storage racks, storage room and gun carriage space. I never stopped and asked if they were factory or home made. ==============================================I wouldn't think it would be the best choice. Reply:I think this is a complicated project for most beginners. There is certainly more to think about than the frame.  What parts are on hand? etc. Its easy to see why Dad doesnt jump on the bandwagon here.  If it was my 15 yr old I would be telling him to find a S10 or Ranger type pickup, maybe a half ton type like a 150 or 1500 Chevy and start fixing that up to good condition, he will wanting to be drive on the road in a year and older trucks are great for a kid.  Ins is cheaper and parts are cheap and you have something with some core value when you are finished instead of a piece of scrap.www.urkafarms.com
