Hi everyone, just a question. Basically I am very into Jeeps and 4x4's etc. I learned some welding back some years ago now but I want to get back into it to build some items for my Rig. I'm looking at getting a welder and just looking for imput on what to get. Locally I saw a Lincoln Mig Pak 15. Its $750 Can, and 220V.Quick specs are:* 230V* Welds light gauge up to 5/16" mild and stainless steel and aluminum* Includes 2-lb spool of .025" solid wire, gun and cable assembly* Also included work clamp and cable, welding shield, spare contact tips and video* Can be used for .035" gasless flux cored wire* Welding setting guide inside wire feed doorJust wondering if this would be powerful enough to build bumpers and rockers, tube work etc? Or should I look for something more? I'm totally new to this all so please don't bash me too much
Reply:Welcome aboard!!, you've found a great machine for making projects with tubing, once you get in the groove of how the machine feels, you can move up to high stress items like rockers. It should perform quite well on making bumpers also. Just ask if you need to know more! Joey Btw, How did you find the site??, I'm just curious.StangnetShop Full Of Stuff. Joey
Reply:Welcome.... Nice choice for a Mig. Does it come with the Gas kit? With the .025 solid wire you will need Gas. I have the Weldpack 100, 115 volt. 15 % duty cycle. .035 flux core. It was around $ 500.00 Canadian. Only downfall I have with the machine, is the duty cycle. When I get going, I don't like to stop. It makes you stop after about 3 inches of welding. (Depending on heat setting) Lincoln 225 AC/DC, Hobart 140 Mig. Oxy/propane Victor torch.(2) Makita 5" angle grinders one with zip disk, 14" chop saw. and just about every other tool you can think of. Whoever has the most toys when he die's ..... Wins!
Reply:Well I was interested in some welding so I posted on a Jeep board that I am on all the time about what type of welder the guys use for their projects etc. I have ehard back some good info and with that I was given a link to this site so I figured I'd check it out. Seems like I'll be spending some more of my time over here now I'll be checking around to see what else I can get that is in my price range. Maybe a Miller175 too, we'll see. The 210 just seems out of my league. Or I'll wait and wait and then get that one, who knows. I would rather learn with something that is great to use, get the hang of it, and no have to buy a new welder either. Have it for years would be ideal.
