Hey yall quick question. I drive a cummins diesel and iv got a crack in my exaust manifold(pretty common in these trucks)an i was wonderin if i could run a bead or 2 on the crack with some cast iron rods? I just bought the rods the other day so all i need to do is take my manifold off an weld er up, but is it hard to weld on cast iron or not? I would prefer to do it myself so i can save some money so if any of yall have ever done this before or know someone who has lemme know. Thanx ChadGIT R DONE!!!!
Reply:you have to have the cast preheated to atleast 400 degrees and then use the cast rod and u should be set....
Reply:If you look through the lincoln electric site under Knowledge, there is information on how to tackle cast iron.http://www.lincolnelectric.com/knowl...ronpreheat.aspIf the crack is not large you can often repair in place. If you remove the manifold and go through the processof preheating and post heating you often get some twisting or distortion. When you re-install the manifold and tighten down on the bolts the unit cracks again. Each situation is different. |
