Customer of mine is selling a welder. Its a Lincoln Ideal Arc Tig 300I found one just like it on a completed ebay auction, this isnt the welder I am thinking of buying, but it is the same model, has a tig torch and a complete set of cables. Its single phase. HEre is the link to the auction:http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...sPageName=WDVWWhats this welder worth in the real world? (not epay inflated prices) How useable is it compared to newer tig units? The tig torch has a foot control but I dont know the brand. Any thoughts or suggestions?60% Duty cycle at 300 amps in my opinion is pretty damn good. Whatcha think?Doc.Some of the things I do would cause a person to get hurt, expelled, arrested, or possibly deported. To put it another way, don't try this at home.Look at the stars whenever your can. That light travelled a long way to get here, dont let it go to waste on some patch of asphalt.
Reply:These are good solid machines. As far as I know, Lincoln still stocks repair parts. They work fine, although they dont have all the bells and whistles of some of the newer machines. New, these things cost close to 3 grand, if they included a water cooled torch and a radiator. If you can get one for a grand, like this ebay price, its a pretty good deal. Big power supply, like you said it has a good duty cycle. I have seen used ones with radiator, foot pedal, and watercooled torch go for as much as 2 grand. But price is dependant on geography, and everything costs more in the northwest where I live. The new machines dont weigh anywhere as much as these- its kind of a bear to move around. And the new electronics make better waveforms for aluminum, but I have welded plenty of aluminum with a machine very like this, and it works fine.
Reply:This unit I am looking at will probably go for a couple of hundred dollars at best.Guess I better get it while I can huh?Doc.Some of the things I do would cause a person to get hurt, expelled, arrested, or possibly deported. Reply:If it works, jump on it! If it turns out you don't like it, you can turn a profit on your error!!Hank |
