Tank on Welding Table/Cart

New to the forum, and pretty new to welding, just picked up the materials for a cart for my new weldpak 15...just got the gas hooked up last week, and I'm pretty stoked ...want to practice over the winter on shop projects before turning myself loose on my bike...EEEP!  So here's my first official, hopefully not to dumb, of a question...I'm looking at pictures of tables with welders on the bottom shelf, and MIG carts with the bottle on the back...I was originally thinking that I'd like to combine the cart and table for space purposes, but am I correct to think that maybe having the tank sitting on the back of a cart that I'm using the top surface to weld on may not be a great idea...?Thanks!

Reply:shepdog, welcome to the forum!   Just for the record, there are no dumb questions. If you are concerned about a fire or explosion from your tank, dont be.Mig welding uses an inert gas(argon, CO2, or a mix) so they can not blow up. The purpose of the gas is to keep oxygen out of the weld area (screws up the weld) I would be some concerned about maybe burning the hose or hitting the regulator when your moving stuff around, but not about fire If you are using flux core wire there is no bottle required.
Reply:Thanks guys...I knew the gas was inert, just being new to welding I'd rather be safe than sorry....I think I was most nervous just hooking the thing up for the first time!Good point on the whacking it with something though...I'll most likely build in some kind of protection against that!I'll post pics when done...
