Ive have a weld-pak 100 and have converted it to gas. Been welding fine for a couple of months, get to welding for a while and all of a sudden, pull the trigger and now wire feed, nothing. I don't even hear that little  click when I pull the trigger. I have shut it down and turned back on and the machine fires up OK, just when I pull the trigger the mechanism does not try and feed the wire. Any suggestions out there as to what I can look for. Wouldn't't you know it, My wife calls and says here and the kids are going to stay over at their aunts house so I could weld all night and then Boink my wire feed does not want to work. Help.......   Weld-Pak 100 Mig. New to welding and melting anything metal
Reply:did you check the two wires that go into the welder that connect the gun to the solenoid\ contactor for the feeder, i have had them come loose also check the triger on the gun, may be a bad gun. the pack 100 is a great little welder!good luckchipmasterRanger 250LN 252 ESAB suitcase feedersSP135LINCOLN Square Wave TIG 255Kondia vert millProtoTrak CNC vertical mill13" South Bend Lathe17" South Bend Lathecaterpillar d-4, 15, 22 and a 20
Reply:the two wires look like they were on tight. I Did notice that once or twice when I squeezed the triger I would get it to feed but then it just stopped. How can I check the trigger? can I take that appart?Weld-Pak 100 Mig. New to welding and melting anything metal

Reply:Sandy.Well I hooked up my multi-volt meter. I disconnected the two clips and put my wire volt meter up to it and depressed the wire feed gun and no voltage or ohm change. So I guess the trigger must be bad. You know I think I'm also going to do a continuity check and if I depress the gun it should beep. I'm reading the manual but it does not tell me how to take apart the gun. Oh well Guess I might play some golf tomorrow.Weld-Pak 100 Mig. New to welding and melting anything metal
Reply:That trigger should short regardless of what else might be wrong. Even with the welder unplugged!!!! So if you check it again to verify then must be bad trigger. I know you've got the manual but I clipped out a bit any way.No wire feed, weld output or gas flow when gun triggeris pulled. Fan does NOT operate.1. Make sure correct voltage is applied to themachine.2. Make certain that power switch is in the ONposition.3. Make sure circuit breaker inside wire drive compartmentis reset. No wire feed, weld output or gas flow when gun triggeris pulled Fan operates normally.1. The thermostat may be tripped due to overheating.Let machine cool. Weld at lower duty cycle.2. Check for obstructions in air flow. Check GunTrigger connections. See Installation section.3. Gun trigger may be faulty.A lot of this is pretty **** and jane and you've prolly already checked it about ten times. Looking at the manual I was sorta shocked that there was darn near nothing about the gun. WOW. DRATS
Reply:OK heres how you take that gun apart. There are two plastic collars one on top of the gun and one at the base of it. They have this nub locking system. Once your turn to loosen the little nub come out of the grove and you pull it up with a little help from a flat head nudge. Do this for the top and bottom plastic collar and boink, the gun splits in half. Now hear is the problem I found. those wires that run back to the machine I unplugged, on the gun each one of those wires has a little pole that when the lever is pressed completes the circuit. The problem was one of the wires had separated from the polls. Time to Minny weld (Solder or soder). So I soderd back the wire to the poll then put back the trigger and collars and Boink I was spitting out wire. The thing on those triggers is there is no mechanism to go bad, just two springs one to bounce back the trigger the other to make the circuit compelete when you depress the trigger. So now that I have my weld pak back in action. I'm all cleaned up and its midnight here in San Antonio so I'm just going to muse over the cash I just saved and maybe go buy me a new tool cabinet.... You know if I could get some good metal I might be able to weld me one up... Hmmmm.... I know I could get some of those jumbo wheels at... Hmmmmm. I hear another project coming on. Well Thanks again Sandy. I'm calling it a night. Oh by the way what welding I did do was really nice to work the weld puddle while welding vertical. Oh yeah I got my first real bad burn trying to touch metal I had just welded. I'm not sure what I did that bot I wont do it again.   Weld-Pak 100 Mig. New to welding and melting anything metal
Reply:Hey Sandy, Every now and then I will get the wire to burn before it hit the metal, usually I adjust the wire speed and I'm good to go. It usually occurs when I adjust the setting for voltage(a,b,c,d,e). Once I adjust the wires speed I'm pooling nicely. Is that the correct thing to do or the only thing. I'm on the back part of the truck and I'm having to weld 3 sheets of metal together so I'm making sure I'm getting penetration through all 3. So I adjust the amps to say a C and the wire speed to say a 3 and I'm pooling with good penetration. Does that sound right. Oh well I'm taking a break for lunch and them after that wrapping up a few loose ends.Weld-Pak 100 Mig. New to welding and melting anything metal
