OK I have ground down my spot welds which I created with my MIG using .025 solid wire. In the photos below I've ground down the spot welds flush but have these small pin holes which do not go all the way through, but I want to back fill with my welder to re-grind down and make flush. Would you just get the small pin holes covered with a top filler or try and get full penetration to cover up those holes?Picture of my ground down spot weldWeld-Pak 100 Mig. Reply:If it were me I think I'd fill in those holes with a quick spot, but grind down carefully so as not to thin out nearby metal which is fine. I can't tell where it is on the car but if it's not a high stress area and you're going to fill it over with body filler anyways, I wouldn't think it would make a heck of a lot of difference..
Reply:I'd hit 'em with a quick spot at about TWICE the suggested amperage for whatever thickness you're working with (I'm talking a duration of less than 0.5s at that heat setting when I say quick) to ensure good wash-in without too many problems. It'll be a small tack with good penetration/wash if you do it well, and it'll be quickly ground down.Just my $.02MR
Reply:Howdy! how are they functuionally? In my mind, they look just fine and better then 99% of auto body shops out there would do. be cautious on re-heating the metals too many times in the search for perfection that may not be attainable. v I think they look just fine. Now is the time for whatever painting prep you do. after it's 100% flush. Brian Lee Sparkeee24 just my 2 cents
Reply:I think I'd say "E", all of the above. A quick, hot shot on the spot.Maybe feather it with a sander depending on where it is,a little bondo, a beer, primer, beer, your done! |
