Just started using a Lincoln 175 wire welder with .035 acid core wire. Problem is the wire feed cable keeps popping out of the welding unit while I'm welding and when this occurs, it breaks the wire. I have to pull broken wire from feed tube and re-feed. Pain in the neck plus wasting alot of wire. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks.
Reply:Are you locking it in? Some units you either twist it, or there is a set screw somewhere inside...
Reply:Be sure to fully back out the set screw before inserting the cable so it is fully seated. FYI... the set screw is #8 in the Operator's Manual drawing (below) Again, be sure the set screw is seated in the ridge not just pressing on the surface. Reply:Thanks for your reply. I looked inside the box more closely and found a tapped hole where it looked like a set screw could go to hold the cable thingey in place. There was nothing in the hole so I found a screw that fit, inserted the cable thingey and put the screw into the hole. This locked things down like they should have been and now it stays together like it should. Apparently, there should have been a set screw in the unit from the factory, but obviously it was missed. Thanks again for your suggestions, Jim. |
