i'm looking to get into a more powerfull mig machine , say in the 250 amp range . in my area all three "colored " brands are well represented in 4 different welding  stores , all the prices are within a couple hundred dollars or thereabouts. I'm not partial to any one "color" and price for this size machine is not an issue for me . Any input in helping me make my decision is well appreciated ... ps ive been welding with  a cheapie century unit for 15 years that still works  as well as a cybertig 300 that i got for 1/2 of what a new buzz box costs . i havent set it up for tig yet but it welds stick really nice .everything is temporary
Reply:last time i got migs for a shop i got the red ones and if i could i would againebut that is just me i have blue at home but after running the red is was soldchuck
Reply:Personally, I own 3 reds.   All obtained purely on price.   No complaints at all.   Where I work, it's been all blue for over 10 years, (except for the two robots which are tan (Panasonic)).   The weld shop foreman told me his reason for insisting on blue machines was for availability of parts.    There was one each, red and yellow, both tig machines, a few years ago, but both ended up dumpster food. There are no small projects
Reply:We got both a red and a blue mig at work ( along with 3 blue tigs) To be honest the red mig gets most of the use, not saying it is better or anything but for some reason people just use it more than blue
Reply:Two blue machines in my shop and recently sold a red machine.  Basically, pick what works for you - features, price, service from local dealer, etc.  I'd say that anyone who really gets into the red vs. blue debate is on about the same level as the Ford vs. Chevy debate.  Different strokes for different folks.  What appeals to you may not appeal to me.
Reply:I have 2 red and a blue right now, very happy with all the machines, I mostly use the small red 135 as its easiest to get out and set up.  I mostly do thin wall stuff so it works excellent.  however I am always very happy when i set up the mm 210 and use it though, it welds so nice!  I was at my dealer earlier this week and he has an esab machine on the floor that was multifunction(mig, tig, stick).  Seemed pretty cheap for the amperage and what it could do.  Esab bought out linde a while back as far as i can tell, anyone know more about this?  Some of the old linde stuff works very well.  No experience with the newer esab though.  Lot of that changes with buyouts sometimes though.
