HI,I need to do some welding on my car trailer and I'm wondering if I need to do anything special for winter temps. I have a Lincoln 135 wire feed rig and will be welding 3/16 mild steel, temps here is around 40 degrees. thanks
Reply:heat the steel first till it's at least worm to the tuch and it should be clean to chuck
Reply:Thanks, I used a propane torch to wamr the steel and surrounding areas and it turned out fine.
Reply:Rock, the general rule of thumb Ive always been told and lived by is 70degrees. Ive definately welded stuff less than that. BUt on strcutural applications thatr require no preheat I do beleive they do require min 70 deg. Its beena rule of thumb ive stood by. obviously as you said it turned out fine and thats good.IF it Catches...Let it Burn |
