So what do you think of this my 1st attempt. Is it too...anything. Feed back is appreciated. Last edited by TPnTX; 01-01-2006 at 09:36 PM.
Reply:What do you want to sell the most? Do you want to primarily sell your service as Landscape Design and Construction or?? Ornamental Fence??The way this card reads to me is your primarily selling/doing business in the area of Ornamental fence work and secondary you also do landscape design and construction.
Reply:okay, short of two cards what do you suggest. I wanted to convey both I guess equally hoping not to dilute either.Do I need a graphic like the fence panel to augment the landscape side.Listing the fence with the landscape didn't seem right.
Reply:It would be better if there wern't black bars over your contact info.  Kinda makes it look like you don't want to sell. Owner of Welding Wiki,The free wiki based resource for weldor's around the world.http://www.weldingwiki.comWe have cookies!

Reply:I like it Tom, but im a simple welder hand IF it Catches...Let it Burn
Reply:Would you do a rail for the interior?  Do you do repairs?  Landscape is wide open. Do you do strictly fencing for landscaping or other stuff?  Do you do consulting?I once did from fab work  for a skateboard park.  The company building the park was a landscape company.  Hence, prior to that when I thought of landscape I thought of flowers and grass.  Though they were pouring concrete bowls and sidewalk.  I am sure other people have preconceived/limited notions about landscaping and welding. While you do not want a book on a card, I think your card needs to suggest more specifically what you do.  Peak their interest.  They might simply have a fence to repair--who knows where that could lead.  They might want an interior rail, garden gate etc.
Reply:Okay, maybe get rid of the whole "ornamental and pipe..." and put a list of your services on the back?Owner of Welding Wiki,The free wiki based resource for weldor's around the world.http://www.weldingwiki.comWe have cookies!
Reply:How about:                       Exterior Designs                       including                   ornamental wood                    and steel fences                   PLUS Landscape                        DesignStephen
Reply:One thing I have seen in business cards recently is rather than orienting them horizontally, do it vertically.  This might give you a slightly different layout and provide a bit of flexibility in your design. Also, you might want a picture of a fence in a landscape (like a gate with nice bushes, flowers or trees around it).  I am not sure of the cost, but you might want to have a backgound picture of a scene with all the elements of your business integrated into one image.you can also print on both sides of the card.  Landscape on one side, metal on the other.Just brainstorming here.  sometimes random thoughts help.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:okay one more
Reply:Look at that, a simple swap around and the message is getting across better. It's now more 'ordered'.Stephen
Reply:I like this last version better as it seems to accomplish your stated goals. One additional thing might be to balance the graphic content overall by moving the tree to the lower left and your contact info to the lower right.Another thought to again emphasize the dual nature of your business might be to replace one of the leaf deals in the logo with a similarly proportioned and sized wrought iron scroll looking thingie. Just throwing ideas around. Sorry if they're lame    :-)MarkB
Reply:no no I appreciate it. There is no hurry and I am just taking advantage of having folks to look at it for me.I've already decided to scap the name. Too generic and even if someone remembered it, you can throw a stick and hit someone using a variation of it.I'll continue to experiment, thanks
Reply:I like the idea of putting your contact info on the front and using the back to list the things you do..... I get handed biz cards all day long and I have noticed more and more are using the back for product or service info...I do this for my bbq biz cards... but not on my restaurant biz cards...just a thoughtgood luck...
Reply:If you do use the back, then make sure you have contact information on both sides.  Many people don't turn cards over. Seems like an awsome venture.  Being able to design landscaping and integrating metalworking, wow.  Should give you a leg up on the competition.    How about Solid Steel Landscape Designs or Metalizing Landscapes?  Just some thoughts.
Reply:well all of my business so far has come from Landscaping or other Landscapers. I like the the non fence work like the bridges. If you build something ornamental your are an artist. If you build a fence and your off 1/2 inch your a smuck!
Reply:Tom,Screw the cards.  The best and sharpest cards are carried by sales people.Your reputation is what will make your work.I don't carry cards.  If someone asks for a card I tell them I'm in the book. Now if you get so busy where you need sales people, get them some cards. Let me give the newbies out there some advice about this work.  It seems the idea getting in is to go with price (cheaper than those big companies) and then when the rep is made bring the price up.Problem with that concept is two fold.  One of course is the people you're dealing with are only interested in price.  Two is your reputation becomes about price.Invariably you're going to find out that those big companies are charging those prices because they have to if they want to survive.  And when you start doing that you're going to be handicapped because your reputation is based upon being cheap which means doing cheap work.Think of price as respect.  If they're not willing to pay you what they'd pay the big boys then they don't respect you as much.  If they respect you more then they'd pay you accordingly, right?A couple of other thoughts on going cheap.  One is there will always be someone willing to use thinner metals, cheaper paint, less welding so they can charge less.  They're going to steal your customer if your customer is all about price.  Another is cheap people don't respect your product, your work, and you.The good thing about cheap is invariably those unwilling or incapable of paying a fair price get stuck with doing business with those unwillinng or incapable of doing good work.life is good
Reply:Harv, As you posted this reply I was makeing another asking for some advice on price/quoting. I am a newbie as you mentioned and pricing is something gets easier with experience. I have no intention of getting paid cheap and I'll do my best on each job.As far as cards, I will use all of my spare time to promote my business. I know a lot of people. Not all of them know that I now work for myself. They all think I'm a computer guy. What? No cards? I start getting an upset stomach thinking about life without cards  You gotta have cards. Everybody has cards. Cards are good. Cards are like, little billboards. You need cards too.  Youuuuuu, just don't know it yet.
Reply:And Harv, Where is the rest of the story on the Norte Texas Project. The trail runs cold after you guys finished the panels? but I cannot find where the guy in Central finished the ATV Bridge.???
Reply:Tom I'm going to start a thread here with that story.  Thanks for reminding me of it.life is good
