Hello all,I am some what an amature to the whole aspect of welding even though I have welded wire feed quite a bit. I am looking for a web site or other info on thickness vs strength of steel. I am looking at welding up a atv hauler for the back of my truck but have a 28" over hang off the back that I want to be sure I use strong enough tubing. I could go way overboard like I usually do but am in need of a rack that is not so heavy that I need 30 guys to move. I am also looking for it to be strong enough to side load an atv with out a problem. I am looking for a web site preferably that has diferent wall thicknesses for angle iron and tube/triangular steel and assesses their strength in amount of weight it can handle. I plan on using 1 1/2 " tube mostly with some angle iron on the bottom. any Help will be apreciated. Thank you.
Reply:Id say the 1 1/2" will work. These usually come I think 1/8" This should be plenty strong. 1 1/2" angel of 1/8" equals a lil stronger than 1 1/2" 1/4" angle imo. I would think youll be just fine. However, what is the weight of this atv so I can better grasp and hopefully give you a better idea.IF it Catches...Let it Burn

Reply:How far back will this framework begin. I know it will extend out 28in but what will the total length be including this 28in. I would say in general yes this will be fine. I could suggest adding a piece or two in the middle as well. What will be the width?IF it Catches...Let it Burn
