Does anyone know if the diamond plate at Lowes/Home Depot is aluminum or ss? I only need a very small piece and they seem to be the best bet for that. Thanks!
Reply:Almost sure it's aluminum.
Reply:If you pick that piece of diamond plate up it shouldnt be hard to tell if its aluminum or stainless steel there is a bit of weight difference.Sight unseen im willing to bet its aluminum also
Reply:I have never seen SS at any of the home centers, it's always been aluminum. The sticker with the UPC should have that info on it, or if you have it scanned, the computer will tell you, If that fails, take a small nail or screwdriver to the edge, if you can mark it easy, it's aluminum. If it is SS that you are looking for, they may have some in a different department. Look in the door hardware, scuff plate type material, I think they will have SS and polished brass, it will have small holes at the edges.Just my opinion, not from a book, just from the road.Howes Welding Inc.www.howesweldinginc.com
Reply:At our local Home Depot it was definitely aluminum. I just bought a piece a couple of weeks ago. It comes in 12"x24" sections and IIRC it was ~$20.MarkB
Reply:The stuff at Lowes is bright finish aluminum. The super shiny finish is an anodize coating and be warned, it scratches easily. You mentioned you only need a small piece. If there are any trailer builders in your area, I'd bet they would have some small bits left over that will only end up in a recycle bin. If you walked in and offered a few bucks for a piece of their scrap, I'd bet they'd sell it to ya.There are no small projects |
