Hi I hope someone here can help me, I am currently wanting to know anything about owning your own truck in Canada and contracting oneself out. Me and my boyfriend a journeyman welder in B.C. are going to relocate to Lloydminster, AB end of the year and we want to buy a new truck and welder. Question isn't with finding work but what is involved in owning our own truck. Do we need a G.S.T # ? (probably yes) but also is there any permits and or paperwork involved in this process? Do we need a bookkeeper? how do we calculate the taxes we pay? Not sure that if when a company hires Stephen and the truck they do this or ot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. WELDERS DO IT HOTTER! LOL
Reply:"Welders do it in all positions"
Reply:the bookkeeper should do the taxes for you,yes you will need a gst#if you expect to have a total income of 30,000.00 or more per year.As far as permits you will also need for the jobs depending if they will get inspected! Also you will need a business licence for your business if you travel to other towns each town will require a business licence,as they do here in Kelowna B.C.Also you will need a compensation number or the companies you do work for will deduct it from your gross bill(cheaper to get your own number). They are responsible for your compensation if you do not have a number. Also you will need liability insurance for your business and probably a bond as I do here as well.Hope this helps a bit.Nobody moves nobody gets hurt(safety first)millematic passportmiller 375 plasmacutter
