Newbie here... haven't welded for about 20 years.I'm curious what the least expensive option is for welding up a trailer.  It's mostly 1/4" c-channel, etc.  I will probably just use an air grinder for cuts, etc (fun fun), but what is best and most cost effective for the welds?Seems Mig is the way to go, just for flexability... but reply with your thoughts and recommendations. Thanks!
Reply:Howdy Howdy! Thought I'd but in a good 2 Cents!  Figure, a 200 amp class machine.  For good DEALS on good equipment, tool king is selling refurbished Hobarts for killer prices.  I would go with an Ironman210 or something similar.  http://www.toolking.com/productinfo.aspx?productid=6249  This is a refurbished, awesome deal price for a great machine.  This should do everything from sheet metal, to 3/8" in single pass, beautifully.  Now, I would recomend a MM210, if you had the cash, but they are like 1600$.  The Hobart machine is a fine fine machine for the weekend warrior welder. This is my vote for the biggest bang for the buck, in a quality unit.  Brian Lee  Sparkeee27

Reply:I would suggest the mm175 if you have 230 volt or the 135 if you only have 120 volt. They are good quality and cheep to buy if you had more cash I would suggest the mm210 for sure or hte DVI if you need dual voltage and a good wqelder. Then you could also look at the mm passport which is what I have and am very impressed but more money.Nobody moves nobody gets hurt(safety first)millematic passportmiller 375 plasmacutter
Reply:ok, so the MM210 might be 1600$+ WITH a spool gun for alluminum
Reply:You seem to be leaning towards mig, maybe for other reasons, but I would think a plain ole stick machine would be most cost effective.  A basic mig machine is substantially more expensive per amp than a basic stick machine.  Most trailer manufacturers probably use mig, but that is for productivity reasons.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
