Reply:Cron Rep, I truly did not expect that from you. I barked out loud,I did. Thanks
Reply:You can tig in the nude with the proper sunblock, but if you are using stick or flux core, have the little lady standing close by with some aloe.  See OSHA for the regs.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.

Reply:If you're getting a lot of burns on the arms - get the leather sleeves.  The body - get a leather apron.  If they seem to heavy get a cotton welding jacket. It will get a few holes, but will save your shirts unless you really need an excuse to throw them away. Here in the Great White NorthMosquitoes can't fly at 40 below
Reply:I used to know a pipe welder that wore blue jeans and western style denim shirts.  He'd have them starched as heavily as possible and apparently spatter would roll right off of them.Personally, I wear Carhartt blue jeans and flannel shirts and rarely have a problem.-Heath
Reply:Tragically, I did some welding recently in a shirt my mother-in-law gave me. I'd been contemplating 'losing' it or having a washing catastrophe, but half an hour of welding did the trick. And now I have another rag for the paint clean-up bag!
Reply:if we can only keep hair from "burning" while overhead welding ...zap!
Reply:Wool does not burn like cotton.  Most shirt fabics are cotton/synthetic mixes.  Leather is the proper choice.  I have a lot of "work" shirts.
Reply:When I first saw the title - I thought duh?  But I have to say; it makes an interesting read.  I offer a suggestion - the Salvation Army Thrift Stores!Yep, you can pick up any kind of shirt you want for like $4 - less when they have a sale.  I wanted a leather jacket/apron for welding - cost new runs $40 - $70.  Good ole Sally-Ann had a 50% off sale and I picked up a below the knees, long sleeve leather coat for $10!  Now, I look rather like them bad cowboy dudes that work for the nasty Railroad Baron in the classic western movies - but I am well protected.Rick V
Reply:Hi SnapB75I like wearing leather (even when I'm not welding!), but here's a flameproofing recipe from "The Welders Bible" by Don Geary. It was written in 1980, so not sure if this concoction is bad for your health, or even if you can still buy these chemicals, but here it is anyway:(its even in imperial measurements for you yanks!)"1. Mix up a batch of 12 ounces sodium stannate to 1 gallon of warm water.2. Dip the clothing in this mixture and let soak for 15 mins3. Wring out material, and then dip into a solution of 4 ounces of ammonium sulphate to 1 gallon of water.4. After 15 mins remove from solution, wring thoroughly and let dry"Apparently if you dry-clean your clothing it will last 6 cleanings. J.
