Looking for bandsaw blade welders

Well, since once can spend hours looking for something they don't know anything about, I thought I would ask the PRO's.I use 3 different size band saw blades and currently looking for a inexpsive welder to make my own blades. (might be wondering why 3 sizes, I'm a Alaska Native Artist carving walrus ivory and whale bone) So I have searched and found it hard to make up my mind as to which type of welder or welding to do on bandsaw blades.Anyone has any sites I can visit or suggestions to sites or the type of welder i should look in too?Thanks for you help and since you helped out this eskimo, this is to you Jimmy CarlisleNome,Alaska

Reply:Search ebay for "blade welder".  There are a few there that might fit the bill.  There is one (of unknown quality) selling new for less than $160 that does 1/2 inch.  Shipping is going to be your problem though...all of them are heavy.Smithboy...if it ain't broke, you ain't tryin'.
Reply:I'm wondering if anyone has had any luck autogenously TIG welding bandsaw blades?  I've heard of people doing this, but I've personally never tried it myself.  It seems to me like it would work in theory.-Heath
Reply:Blade welders are great, but expensive and heavy.  I don't know how you have been joining your blades up to now, but silver soldering a long scarf joint has worked for me and it's pretty easy after a little practice.  You can buy blade soldering kits or just make your own blade holding jig and use "hard" silver solder flux from the welding supply store.  The whole rig is very cheap and portable.Googling, "bandsaw blade soldering" brings up 68,000 hits varying from blade soldering kit suppliers to instructions for hard soldering of blades to discussion of the merits of soldering vs. welding.awright

Reply:well a while back, i was looking through one the my wood magazine, and their was was a way to put them back together oe make your own..it was pretty simple, just two clamps to hold the blad and they used some kind of torch to fuse them together...if i can find the magazine i will copy if off for you...got no time right now, just noticed that my feet were wet. ( basment is flooding )
