I dont know if this is the right place to ask this ,but I need to make a sheet metal cone.I know I have a book with a formula in it ,but of course when in need can not find. The cone needs to be 8" high ,15"dia on one end and 22 1/2" on the other .Does any one have an idea or links to were I could find lay out formulas or plans .Thanks
Reply:lay out the side view of the cone. Lay out a line from the bottom of the cone to the top on both sides. where the lines intersect is the apex of the cone. That is where you will lay out your radius from. If I calculated right, the large radius is 26.5 inches and the smaller radius is 17.67. These are the two radii for the cone. Now layout a circle of 22.5 diameter and divide it into 16 equal spaces. Actually the more spaces, the more accurate you will be. Now start on the larger radius with a pair of dividers set on the divided space and mark them off onto your layout. That should be about 70.6 inches. Layout the line from the apex to the first mark and then the line from the apex to the second mark. That will give you your flat pattern.
Reply:Thanks........ Much appreciated |
