Well, let me start by saying hello to everyone. I've read a lot of the question and comments on this site and its all such useful information I just had to join in. My first question is this, I just purchased my first portable welder, a Lincoln Ranger 250. I told the man that we purchase our welding products from to give me a 100ft of both stinger and ground cable. He brought me #2 welding cable and after looking at it I am wondering if I shouldn't go with #1 or if the 2 will be ok. Looking forward to some replys.
Reply:i think you ought to have #1 or 1-0 . i have always used 1-0 , and never been sorry, except if if have to carry or drag it all over the place (it's heavy)
Reply:By the way, when I welded up in Woodward, oklahoma in 1981-1982 , in the winter it was about zero ,(temperature) & i found that when it's that cold , or below 32 degrees , you need hypalon , the other insulations get too hard , UN flexible - for what that's worth
Reply:Use the # 1/0 welding cable with a 10-15' stinger whip using the #4 or #2 whip cable.
Reply:I too recomend you go to the 1/0 cable.Thats what I use on my Trailblazer 301G.As stated before it can be a bear to drag around.
Reply:We have 2 Severe Duty SAE 400 Lincolns, 2 SAM 400 Lincolns, and 2 SA 250 Lincolns and run 100' 2 0 Arctic Grade leads on all of them. We have several 50' sections to add onto if needed. Keep the connectors clean. I wouldn't worry about it. Just bought a new set 2 days ago at Air Liquide, 356.00 each for 100'ers with connectors.
