I am building a boat of 5083 alloy plate. I have been given conflicting information as to what filler wire to use, is 5356 suitable, or do i need to use 5183?Thanks in advanceVIN
Reply:Both should weld that alloy. 5183 will yield greater strength, while 5356 should have better elongation properties. I don't build boats and can't comment on which is better for you.
Reply:if your sending the parts out for annodizing then 5356 is what you want......zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:If you go with the weld with better elongation, you will have less of a problem with cracks down the road. Boat hulls twist and flex and if any weld holds more rigidly than the others, the forces concentrate on it and it will crack.
