I tell you what, there is a crazy difference in prices to get my 60 cuft tank filled (exchanged) around here (Washington DC Metro area). I called around and got prices ranging from $25 to $75. It figures the place that is closest to me is $65 and the least convenient to go to is $25. I cannot believe the differences in prices...what are some of you guys prices?MM175 MIGCutmaster 38 PlasmaCraftsman 30gal compressor4x6 HF bandsaw1hp HF floor drill pressRyobi Cutoff SawAssorted grindersNot enough time

Reply:I pay right around $ 25 for my 80 heres a linkt to a price list in my areahttps://weldingsupply.securesites.co...ve:terms::PH03
Reply:My 125's are running about 22 bucks as is my 155cf. Sadly, the 80's are in the same bracket.Mudbug, where exactly are you going? I spent 5 years there. Robert's Oxygen got the lion's share of my business, with Lee's gas getting a little as did B&R.

Reply:Prices in Sacramento at Airgas and others are out of control. They get $65 for 160 cu ft. of pure argon and a little more for the mix. They are all about the same at Barnes and Praxair. Bad, bad, bad!
Reply:Interesting. My three Roberts stores were Sterling, Fairfax and Manassas. Spent a lot of money there. Do you have an account? That may help. I had a cash account, but I still got low prices. Things may have changed. It has been almost 15 years since I left Chantilly, Va......gladly. My wife grew up in Vienna and likes it here much better as well. Good thing, we ain't going anywhere. Is Lee's Gas still around? Spent a good bit there as well. They weren't as good as Robert's, though. The Roberts in Merrifield is where I started out, and ended up in Sterling after they built that one. Anything to keep off of 50 and outside and away from the Beltway.

Reply:I think Lee's Gas might now be Valley National Gas, locations in Alexandria and Manassas.MM175 MIGCutmaster 38 PlasmaCraftsman 30gal compressor4x6 HF bandsaw1hp HF floor drill pressRyobi Cutoff SawAssorted grindersNot enough time
Reply:They had one in Merrifield, too. No more I suppose. All my welding stores in Irving and Dallas are still there, but every one of them has changed names. An account will help stabilize the prices anyway. They will be on file and they should charge the same every time....at least that is how it is supposed to work. You are right, I wouldn't recognize it. Went up in '99 for a week and haven't been up since. Way too much traffic and people. I like it here much better. Slower pace of life, no high prices and taxes..........and no one makes fun of my boots.
Reply:I did set up an account at Roberts. Still not as cheap as Manassas but better than driving all the way down there. I would love to move away from here...maybe someday. My daughter is a senior in HS, she says we're not moving until she graduates...lolMM175 MIGCutmaster 38 PlasmaCraftsman 30gal compressor4x6 HF bandsaw1hp HF floor drill pressRyobi Cutoff SawAssorted grindersNot enough time
Reply:That is good. Sometimes it is better to pay a little more and be close and convenient. Robert's took very good care of me when I was there. Hopefully, you will have the same type of service. I am doing the same here. I go to another town and pay just a little more than I would in San Antonio. I get much better service. It is a small company and I am still training them as to what I want. So far, they are more than happy to accomodate my needs. I save a good bit of time and fuel going there. Hopefully, the extra will be offset by the fuel and time savings. So far. so good.
Reply:Thats cool...so what type of welding do you do? I'm just at the hobby level but have always been interested in welding. Yesterday I was beggin some scrap metal to use for practice and the guy at the fab shop said he was looking for welders...he told me once I get good, he can put me to work..lol I told him if he can pay me $100k/yr I'd sign up...lolMM175 MIGCutmaster 38 PlasmaCraftsman 30gal compressor4x6 HF bandsaw1hp HF floor drill pressRyobi Cutoff SawAssorted grindersNot enough time
Reply:What type?? Lotsa stuff. Handrails, fences, buildings, repairs, general fabrication...stuff like that. Nothing fancy. Very little alu and stainless, although that may change soon, but the majority is plain old mild steel. I do not do any pipe work. I build stuff out of it, but no service ar transmission lines. Welding pipe makes me dizzy...I don't like going in circles. When I was there, I was mainly welding curtain wall exteriors all around. Did most in Chantilly area. May have been one I didn't do...maybe two. I was one of two that would actually do the stuff. Seems everyone hates galvanized....I don't. It paid my bills. Sure did a lot of it there. |
