Hi all just though I would share a few facts I have found out lately here in Australia I have spent alot of time lately looking for good 240v welder I want one that supports a spool gun I have rang  Lincoln Australia the guy I was talking too didn't know what I meant at first and then told me oh we don't have them over here I rang WIA Australia who are owned by Miller they don't have a welder that will support a spool gun and Miller won't bring there single phase line here because WIA has single phase welders no other of the big players in welders here have them either .They all are happy to sell you a kit for running aluminum but thats not what I want so the option I have to get the welder I want is to import one So how many years have spool guns be around in the states lets say if its at least 10 then in may take another 10 for them so start being the next big thing here to import a millermatic 210 with spool gun would cost me close to $3000 AUD a  Lincoln power mig 215 is about the same I would prefer a Millermatic 251 or power mig 255 but there pushing close to the $4000 AUD landed the best price on a Lincoln here is a redi mig 255 for $3000 Creative metal Creative metal Facebook
Reply:May be pricey, but methinks it would be worth it in the long run. You may cry now because of price , but when you can do what you want later, you'll have the last laugh.

Reply:I have owned a spool gun for about 20 years. And I am pretty sure Miller made them at least 10 years before that. And previous to that, you could buy Cobramatics- which are a push pull gun, where the gun has a small motor in it, and then the wire feeder takes a full size spool of wire, and has a second, larger motor.I actually currently own both a spoolmatic gun and a Miller XR-15 push pull system.I would recommend you look into a push pull- its a totally stand alone unit- I run it on gas drive welders, like a miller trailblazer, or on inverter power supplies, or on transformer power supplies- in other words, you can easily find a power supply there in OZ to plug it into. Here is the miller I have-http://www.millerwelds.com/products/...trol/index.phpand here is the cobramatic-http://www.mkprod.com/Cobramatic.htmThe advantages to a system like this include- no problems with supply voltage- they get their power from your welder. No buying those expensive, itty bitty rolls of wire that get used up fast and need changing all the time- you just use standard rollsNo problems with the aluminum wire birdsnesting- well, not NO problems, buy my XR screws up about 1/10 as many times as my spoolmatic gun does, and both are far superiour to trying to run aluminum in a regular mig gun.
Reply:If one has a good CV power supply, it shouldn't be too hard to connect a spoolgun to it.  They are very simple devices.-Heath
Reply:Wello have check out the link below they might be able to help you.http://www.aussieweld.com/product_pa...lary_equip.htmSimonhttp://members.optusnet.com.au/~abba/index.html
Reply:You could also try migatronic, They seem to be able to get hold of most things. I have dealt with their branch Southern Cross Industrial Supplieshttp://www.migatronic.com.au/default.htmSimonhttp://members.optusnet.com.au/~abba/index.html
Reply:I think I'll go with a WIA unit when I get around to buying one there not blue but owned by the same company and have used there machines in the pass and there very good just means changing spools for ally the 215 will do 10mm in a single pass and 255 will do 12 which is about max i would ever use at home and both machines have a traveller option which I like you can leave the machine in one spot Creative metal Creative metal Facebook
