ok to change plug on 220 flat wire?

Hi All,With the addition of a new MM175 I picked up the other day I officially had 3 different 220 plugs, 20 amp, 30 amp and 50 amp. I've decied to consolidate and put 50 amp 220 plugs on all of them, since that was what I originally installed in my shop for my buzz box welder.I personally think this setup is ok, but I'm not an electrician and I don't want to die.  I wired my shop myself so I'm confident with my skills but I'm used to wiring with standard type wire, since this stuff below doesn't have individual insulation on the hot leads themselves, I thought I'd better check to be sure.Also, this 50 amp plug is really for 10+ gauge wire and the lead here is 12 gauge.   It tightened up just fine though.Here's the plug in question;Here's the extension cord I made for my stuff, it's oil/UV resistant 10-3.  I couldn't find much options for female ends, so this will have to do;And finally, here are the plugs I removed, left is from my Clarke plasma, the other from the MM175;Thanks!Jordan
Reply:as long as the welder will never draw more current than the cord or plug can handle, you're safe. first thing I did when I got my 120amp(21amp peak draw@220) hf welder was replace the 4' 14-3 power cable with a 25' 10-3. It's the weakest link that will fail in a circuit.
Reply:Just maybe check those 12awg connections a few days later down the road. It's way more than likey good enough. I'm just not a trusting sucker, especially the way these made up cord connections tend to have strain relief that is less than perfect. The screw post could easily be the only restraint after a few hundred bends and flexes. I've never been a fan of the 12 awg wire in a 10 gauge hole but it's the most practical option many times.Looks like you did good.

Reply:My brother is an electriction..he says "no problem...thats exactly what i'm gonna wire your machine with plug(s) wise"stay safe!...zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a  dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:Thanks!A note to you if you're going to go buy plugs and also use this flat wire, some of the plugs don't have the clamp where the cable enters the plug, the other style has a rubber grommet that you slip over the wire then when the plug comes together it compresses it, thats fine with round cable but no good with this stuff.  I prefer the style above, it does better with round or flat.
