Reply:nice looking beadsin the first pic the bead on the left looks best, the other two look a little religious (got a crater, and what looks like a little porosity towards the end of the other bead) holy beads like that may be the result of poor gas coverage. what were all your settings? a little off center on the pipe, if your having trouble seeing the joint you may want to try a lighter shade on your hood (comfort and vision!). if not keep up the practice, your doing good. = }

Reply:Zap is right, pic #1 doesn't look TOO bad...pic #2 is another story.For the machine you are using, 175 on the wfs is a little slow. I have (2) Power Mig 200 and when welding material suitable for "C", I use a wfs of 200-250 depending on my position.I tend to use a little slower wire speed than most due to my slow hand speed. Do you see the little dimples inside your beads? That's caused by not making a continuous bead (even though you think you were making one). When you weld, it should feel as if you are carrying a part of your first puddle all the way through to the last.Try another weld and drop the voltage to "B" and a wfs of about 150. Slow your hand down and make sure that your pulling your puddle and the welder is making a consistent "sizzling" sound.BTW, those look great for only an hour behind the trigger!http://all-a-cart.comWelding Cart Kits and accessories

Reply:The guys at work told me that weld might be weak because I used a back and forth motion with the gun.
Reply:Originally Posted by SandyThat's a pretty broad statement. That's like saying you should always or should never turn the steering wheel. It takes a combination of it all to keep it on the road. A weld might fail, or pass, because of numerous factors. The motion or action is only one factor. There isn't really any "only one way" to get er done. What really matters most is what goes on inside, at the edges and around the minute perimeters of the weld bead. If a person is doing garbage work a push, drag, weave, cirlce, whatever really don't matter much. In the stick, gmaw and fcaw world, if you couldn't do a weave you just as well shut down the shop. Just too many variables to say this or that is the way. Won't be long before you'll will be using quite a number of motions, when and where needed.

Reply:I once worked for a company like that. They would put anyone to welding. The reason was that they were too cheap to pay an experienced weldor. They were so cheap it was actually against the rules to do anything right, it costs too much to do it right. Actually the place lost way more money in scrapped bad parts and rework labor than they would have spent just doing it right the first time. I had to quit. As amusing as it was, inefficiency and counterproductivity gives me nightmares.

Reply:Originally Posted by ZTFabThat doesn't sound like the guys at his work are "utilizing the filler material" to keep job costs down...it sounds like they are untrained employees thrown into a position to make production numbers. Besides, why would an hourly paid employee at a large manufacturing facility care about how much filler he is using...it doesn't come out of their pay check.
