the new welder im gunna get in a couple of weeks can take 1,5 or 15 kg spools of wire. my dad reckons to not get the 15 because i dont need such a big spool. it will be fluxcore wire. i dont see anything wrong with getting the 15. i use my current welder a full weekend (both days, every second weekend approx.) and sometimes after school. the question is; can fluxcore wire go bad over time?
Reply:wire will rust and thats badChuckASME Pressure Vessel welder
Reply:Wire will rust anyway regardless of the spool size.Humidity can be a factor contributing to rust. I know it may take discipline but if you cover your wire spool with a plastic garbage and put one of those dessicant tabs ( it absorbs any existing water vapor in the bag ).In our school vacation break of six weeks , I pull the spools from the machines and bag them up.Using the above method, I never have any rust on them when we return from the break.Hope this helpsGrahame from Oz
Reply:i know here, the larger spool of wire ya get the cheaper the price. 1lb spool goes for 5.50 while the 10lb spool goes for 22.00. like grahame sais, gag the spool while not being used. i use charcoal briquettes to control the moisture."Retreat hell, were just fighting in the other direction"Miller Trailblazer 302, Extreme 12 VS, Dimension 400, Spectrum 375, HF 251D-1, Milermatic 251 w/ spoolgun Hypertherm 1000Lincoln sp 1702000 F-450 to haul it
Reply:also on this new welder im getting would it be worth getting the upgrade for a geared drive roller? because it has one that freewheels and on drive one.
Reply:If you're using the welder every few days, even once a week or two, I'd go ahead and get the big spool. I assume it's cheaper per pound?Go ahead and put the question in the subject line, please. 50% of the threads here are "Quick Questions." |
