what is the minumum gap on a socket weld
Reply:If you are welding high pressure socket welds. Then you should fit up the joint with a gap of 1/16 " at the bottom of the joint between  the pipe and the socket  bottom.  I hope this is the gap that you  were talking about.
Reply:yeah i think it is is is for a relief valve on a high pressure 10 inch
Reply:I done alot of nuclear work with socket weld we just used paper spacers at around 1.5 mm 1/6 of and inch remember you only have to allow for expantion from the weld to the tube end 1/6 is more than enough
