hello, any information on how to weld with this intershield wire would be much appreciated. the company i work for sent me to get certified for this but, unfortunately i dont get an instructor this time around. i would like to know, any techniques for a vertical rootpass using e71t-8.
Reply:Ok....I am guessing that it will be 5/64 since that is probably the most common size of a T-8 wire that I have seen. T-8 wires are kind of funky....they aren't like your regular self-shielding wires. For a vert-up fillet, I use 19 volts and 85ipm. You will want to keep it around 220 amps and about 3/4" - 1" stickout (personally, I like to go a little closer than that on a vert-up). The T-8 wire can generate a bit of spatter and noise, but that is normal. Also, the puddle sags a little so you will want to use a little bit of a weave especially on your root pass (groove or fillet). Good luck |
