Reply:In Canada a trip to the library will give the wage rate for areas across the country using Stats Canada publications. I am sure there is a government branch of the American government that publishes wage rates for each area and occupation. If you wander in to a public library you can ask a librarian to help you find the information. You can also do a Google search. There are some numbers available on the internet giving wage rates. I have never negotiated wages with my employer. If I demand more he feels that he is forced to pay. If he doesn't pay enough I look around for another job. When I leave I just say that I found a better career opportunity. Lastly, Don't think that because the top rate for a welder in a union shop is 25 an hour that the top welder makes 25 an hour. Often he makes more only he keeps his mouth shut. We had one young fellow out of school working for us last year. He was asked to work for an outfit that made garbage containers. He refused until they agreed to pay 12.50 an hour. He worked a couple of days and then quit because he didn't like the work. He actually phoned from our shop telling the guy that he was not coming back. The rest of the crew making these garbage containers found out how much he was getting paid and they revolted since most were making less than ten an hour.
Reply:no its not... you have no idea of what i'm capable of..

Reply:I don't know if steel welders make the same as aluminum or not but I work in a union factory and make 45k/year plus benefits. Like I said, I weld steel though.
Reply:GEOGRAPHICAL LOCATION..................................$$$$$ Here in Nevada we need welders at the mines like crazy, top wage at my mine is 26.90, and a welder with experience and skill can start out at 20.00 an hour plus vacation health bennie's,401k. the schedule is a 4-5 schedule which means you work 4 days get 5 off work 5 days get 4 off so u basically work 14 days a month. 12 hr days. Company provides bus ride to work and coveralls and tool allowance.
Reply:Union sacle in Alaska 29.45non union is 20-25my rate is 75 for me and the truck (steel) 105 Davis Bacon and 150 aluminum shop or field
Reply:It all depends on where you are from, and what process you do. I have friends in the Bay area making over $50 per hour doing structural work, over $75 for under water work. In Los Angeles we have a job for the city, and we have to pay prevailing wages for over $40.

Reply:I retired from an office job 12 years ago (middle range-nothing special.)I hope you guys will help me wipe these tears from my keyboard that flow when you talk about those size wages. At my last job, which was a non-union fab shop, they started ppl out at $9 an hour for mild steel and aluminum Tig and FCAW. I started there at $11, and in less than a year was up to $13 and hour (plus some benefits). I was acutally welding military-spec aluminum stuff. I am in a part of the US where ppl who call themselves welders are a dime-a-dozen. |
