I've seen in a couple other threads that quite a few people have problems with the head gear on their Jackson hoods. I'd recently bought one as well and had the same problem: the detent mechanism wasn't nearly strong enough to keep the hood in the up position unless the thumbscrews were tightened enough that the hood couldn't be flipped down when needed. In my case the hood would slowly creep down even if the screws were cranked down hard.Anyway, since I'd just bought mine, and it was their new flexible one and had the auto darkening lens, I didn't want to just go buy a Huntsman. I called Jackson and the lady I talked to sent me two new thumbscrew assemblies, no questions asked. Both of these worked just like the originals. She'd asked me to call back if that didn't work. So, I called back and told them that I'd read here that the Huntsman head gear worked good, and since Huntsman is a Jackson product could I put that headgear in my hood. The lady didn't think it would work, but she sent me the headgear anyway. No questions asked. When I got the headgear I could see why it wouldn't just retrofit into another hood: part of the detent assembly is integral with the Huntsman hood. The paperwork that came with the headgear showed the part needed to attatch to the hood that would make it work. So, I called back and explained this to the person, and he sent me two complete sets of the parts needed. Again, no questions asked. I put the pieces on and installed the headgear last night and it works great. So, long story short: if you have a Jackson hood that you frequently feel like throwing across the shop because the headgear sucks so bad, you may be able to get the parts no charge from Jackson. You need Huntsman headgear part # 117A, and lug set part # 118L. Their newer headgear may suck, but this is by far the best customer service I've ever seen.
Reply:thats awesome! maybe if we get enough people calling them they will just offer an upgrade using the parts they already have. (preferably for free of course) = }
Reply:I just got off the phone with a VERY nice and helpful customer service rep at Jackson.    I read to her the entire description from above and based on my having a Shadow style helmet, she felt that the "fix" described above by me37 would not work on my helmet, but instead offered to mail out a complete new head gear component at no cost to me.There are no small projects
Reply:The lugs that attatch to the hood itself require some work to install, but not much. The hole that exists in the hood needs to be enlarged to about 7/8". Then, three small holes need top be drilled on each side. I managed it with a drill bit and a pocket knife while drinking beer on the couch. I'm sure it can be adapted to about any hood.
Reply:Quick update...the wife called to tell me a package arrived from Jackson Products.   Sure nuf, the replacement head gear for my helmet arrived, at no charge, in 4 days.      I won't know if it will work until tonight, but you've got to be impressed with the customer servce.There are no small projects
Reply:imagineer, any update on your headgear upgrade?
Reply:I called Jackson before about my auto darkening lens.... the inside of the lens was pitted up from lack of care. I told her that I had cleaned it as best I could and that I was calling to see if I should be concerned about using it. She told me that I shouldn't use it and that if I wanted to return the lens I could upgrade to a newer style at a minimal charge.It was several years ago so the exact numbers escape my mind but it didn't matter much anyway because within a few days one of my employees decided to leave my lid on the track of a machine and drive, I mean back over it. Yup the customer service at Jackson was great, never got the full benefit out it but what was offered was above my expectations._________________Chris

Reply:This is the exact problem I ran into in the beginning. The replacement parts are the exact same as the original parts that come with the hood. The design is just not robust enough. Also, the folks in customer service think that the Huntsman headgear won't work in the Jackson hood. And they are right. But, with the addition of the 118L lugs, the Huntsman headgear will work. Luckily I talked to someone there who, although they didn't think the Huntsman headgear would work, sent me the headgear anyway.
