I have an aluminum casting that needs to be about 2 inches deeper. The casting is basically square/rectangular, with a bolt flange on one end. At this point, I am unsure of the thickness, but I figure minimum 1/8". My idea is to remove the flange, bend a piece of 6061 flat bar of similar thickness to match the shape, then weld the flat bar between the flange and remainder of the original piece. Does this seem feasible?
Reply:Anything is feasable with the right equipment..From the sounds of it it seems like your deepening a tranny pan or something..The way you describe what you want to do is a good method..get it clean clean clean weld the new parts on..grind off the top of the weld when done...and repeat the process untill you get a clean weld..this may take awhile but it will happen..Use 5356 for castings.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home. |
