I just started a TIG welding class at the community college. The problem is, I am right handed and my ring finger and pinky finger on my right hand gets HOT. Any suggestions for gloves that will help and still have good dexterity? Has anyone heard of "Ironclad Heat Workx" gloves?
Reply:Sometimes I'll lay a heavy welding glove under my hand to take the heat.... I've never tried the gloves you mentioned._________________Chris
Reply:Tillman has gloves made for tig..mig..and all the other processes..Good stuff but I get a new one every month or so.....zap!I am not completely insane..Some parts are missing Professional Driver on a closed course....Do not attempt.Just because I'm a dumbass don't mean that you can be too.So DON'T try any of this **** l do at home.
Reply:I use the tillman kidskin tig gloves (they feel like a brand new pair of socks when you first put them on) for tig and light mig. I keep 2 pairs of gloves, one for alluminum and ss only and one for steel and mig work only. There are heat reflective covers that strap on your gloves that work fairly well. But in the end it comes down to what glove feels good on you hand and provides decent heat and uv ray protection.

Reply:I had a tig instructor that used the cotton knit gloves. He wore two pair on each hand. They do a good job of keeping the heay away while letting you "feel" the filler. They aren't very durable but the are very cheap to buy.DennisThermal Arc 185-TSWMillermatic Challenger 172VictorO/AAtlas Craftsman 12 by 24 LatheEsab PCM-875Wholesalem Tool Mill-Drill
Reply:If it doesn't end up bugging you too much, put a cotton glove under your kidskin TIG glove on the hand that gets hot. That seems to help alot. Either that or get one of those heatshields and wear it over your Tig glove. That is good too.
Reply:Total newbie here, and I've never tig welded, but I can at least contribute a couple photos of the heatworx 600 gloves which I am using for gmaw:http://ironvulva.com/weld/ironclad.jpghttp://ironvulva.com/weld/ironclad2.jpgThey are certainly more flexible than thick leather gloves, but do not offer quite the level of dexterity you get with the mechanix-style gloves (Due to the silicon palm/fingers, I imagine). Please note that mine are far from broken-in... but already I wish they had gone with external seams/stitching and it would also be nice if the gloves were sewn to have that pre-bent (?) feel with a slight curve in the grip. |
