Reply:I have no experience with Hobart welders, but from what I can tell, they look like decent machines. Reply:The Hobarts are a good unit. They are a re-branded non-commercialized version of the Miller. Basically like the Saturn of GM cars.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com
Reply:If you are planning on buying a new machine look at the HH 187 instead of the HH 180. The HH 187 has just been out a few months now and is a better welder.
Reply:hobart makes good welders. i have never had any problems with them
Reply:Hobart is an excellent welder and was one of the industrial leaders for many many years. When they were acquired by ITW (the same company that owns Miller) I understand they were required to part with the larger industrial machines and ones over 250 amp output to avoid the acquisition being disallowed as it would have been declared a monopoly or atleast too large of a market segment. The smaller Millers and Hobarts share parts much like Chevrolet and Buick do under GM. Some of the former Hobart items were also sold to what is now Thermal Arc. Their customer support is outstanding as well.Regards,Clay
Reply:I have a hobart 140, and it works great. The 140 is a 110v sister to the 180. It welds 3/16" perfectly in a single pass. Ive got a whole lot of hours on it, and it has never given me a problem. A good value, 10 times better than any HF welder for sure.Miller Syncrowave 200Hobart Handler 140Thermal Dynamics Cutmaster 38E-Z Tube BenderPlasma Cam DHC2
