I am thinking a getting a new tig welder and wanted some input. I was looking at the miller dynasty 200 series and the maxstar 200 series units but found out the I can get a new lincoln 185 precision tig welder for about a thousand cheaper. I have read some reviews on the welder and it all looks good. This lincoln welder won welder on the year twice. Has anybody used or have one of these welders. I want a tig welder with pulse, AC/DC, and foot control. I have someone who wants to buy my dialarc so I would be using it as a stick welder as well.Any info would be great.Miller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.

Reply:Not exactly the same, but my Lincoln Squarewave Tig 175 works great.  Never tigged steel but it works great for aluminum up to 3\16".  I never used a better stick welder.  Much higher power stick welders, but none that run any AC or DC rod as buttery smooth.I walked into my LWS and specifically asked for the Lincoln, which was on the showroom floor, and the store clerk STILL tried to push me towards the Miller.  Amazing!  I'm biased towards Lincoln.  I wouldn't use any Miller product on a dare;  15 years is enough.WeldingWeb forum--now more sophomoric banter than anything else!

Reply:I have a dynasty 300 dx and if the 200 dx is half the machine you will not regret buying one, you will have to get the 200 dx to have pulse control;
Reply:I have the Lincoln 185, it works great for me.  I have used it on steel, stainless, aluminum and even copper.  I havent used it on anything over 1/4" though, I MIG that.  I havent used the stick option either.  One drawback is that the torch gets really hot.  Other than that it is a great machine but not very portable.

Reply:Ok let me change the question here a little. What is a good all round stick/tig welder for the best price. I am looking for a good stick welder and want tig option with pulse and foot control. Sorry I missed you today Microzone . May be able to get on tonight. Not sure. I will be working some night shifts soon, wednesday and thursday next week. will get on then if not soonerMiller DVI2Lincoln Precision Tig 225Thermodynamics Cutmaster 38Everything else needed.
Reply:Id go for a precision tig 275 if you can cover the amp draw and have room for it.  If you dont allready have the torch, regulator etc, I recommend this package:http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Cat...eet.asp?p=5408weldingsupply.com has it for $3689 with a cooler, wp20 torch, regulator, and little tig kit.  pretty sweet deal.Its almost 700 lbs though.  wow.Last edited by Doolittle; 02-10-2007 at 05:49 PM.Various GrindersVictor Journeyman torch200cf Acet. 250cf oxygenLincoln 175 plus/alpha2 gunLincoln v205t tigLincoln 350mpEsab 650 plasmaWhen you can get up in the morning, Its a good day.Live each day like its your last.

Reply:Miller and Hobart are both owned by Illinois Tool Works (ITW).  Whether or not they have some of the same parts, I dunno...But I wouldn't count on the relationship between companies to be a deciding factor in your purchase.  They may be completely separate, with no interaction or design sharing, for all we know.The Dynasty 200 WILL weld AC.  I think the poster above that said it wouldn't may have been thinking about the Maxstar 200.The TA185 is actually a pretty sweet machine.  Although I'm a big Miller fan, I would be very tempted to buy the TA over the dynasty 200.
Reply:Originally Posted by tensefan http://www.hobartbrothers.com/aboutus/our-company  this link will tell you truth if moderators over on the Hobart Weld Talk forum say Hobart and miller are not made by the same company then they need new moderators, miller don't make hobart, but hobart does make miller
Reply:hobart is the parent company

Reply:your right, I read it I was just trying to show that hobart did make miller,I got a old miller welder at the shop that says made by horbart, got a dewalt chopsaw that says made by black & decker, I was just trying to show that they are part of the same company, just like gmc and chevrolet two completely different trucks on the outside but made by the same companywith most of the same parts
Reply:ALthough cars and trucks may have many of the same parts, I don't think it's so much the same with Miller and Hobart.  It may get that way in time, but they don't syncronize stuff over night.  Not only that, but Hobart is clearly the "value" (cheap) brand.  I don't think the machines will every be completely the same, as they can't afford to make a Hobart as nice as a Miller, yet sell it for the Hobart price.
Reply:Mann I'm glad to see that cleared up a little.... I heard the same thing.  Hobart / Miller  being the same company. weld it like you own it

Reply:Originally Posted by tensefanI agree i started to buy a Hobart wire welder until a miller rep started pointing out some of the cheaper parts on the hobart, I know it was'tfor the sale cause I was at airgas in Dalton Georgia just killing time, I get all my junk from holston gas in Athens, Tennessee
Reply:Originally Posted by EngloidHobart stuff is pretty good for the money though..their mig stuff, at least.  Of course they lack some bells and whistles, but reliability is pretty good.Athens TN?  I used to work at Heil.  I now work up in Maryville.  Where do you work, and what do you do?
