welding question. more to do with the theory

i've got some questions to answer but im stuck on one  it is as follows:Sketch and describe the structures in the weld and parent metal for steel at the following conditions:i) at the maximum temperature during welding;ii) after cooling of a steel of low hardenability;iii) after cooling of a steel of high hardenability.any ideas?thanks
Reply:Start by taking a look in the 'welding metallurgy' section of ASW "Weling Handbook", vol 1. Many libraries have it.

Reply:Becky – it is interesting that your assignment would be specific to the automotive industry!  Is that because they use different metal that is more affected by heat?  I know that the HSLA (high strength low alloy) steels used in the structure of modern vehicles since the early 80’s require a very specific welding method!

Reply:Out of curiosity, what flavor of degree are you going for? You are at th perfect time in your life to pick up as many reference books as you can that are relevant to your field. Sounds weird, but student pricing can't be beat on a lot of books. (I remember when I picked up my CRC handbook. $10 through the school, was a LOT more otherwise)

Reply:hello guys, not had it back yet so cant let you know yet :Pim doing a mechanical engineering degree for those that were interested, im in my second year now (just started my exams) and have a years work placement starting on the 2nd july, they make welded tubes at the place i am going to so you never know i may be back with more exciting(?) questions!i will be back to let you know how i do unless i did rubbish hehe
Reply:check out an iron carbon continous cooling diagram, it will tell you the grain structure at each temperature for varying amounts of carbon in steels
