hey guys new to here and had a couple of questions.1) anyone know anything about schools in new jersey that are for under water welding ?2) anyone know of apprenticeships for this field through out the nation ? 3) any other useful information about this field ?
Reply:there is a school in camden nj called divers academy international.  tuition is between 10,000 and 15,000$.  there is a school in morgan city LA called young memorial that is state funded and costs about 2000$ out of state.  thats where i went, you'd be an idiot to go anywhere else. the rest of the private schools (DIT, ocean corp, college of oceaneering)are in the same price range.  when you get out of school expect to spend 2-3 years working as a tender before you break out as a diver.    i have wet welded one time since dive school. its just plain not done very often.    there are two companies that do a lot of it, phoenix and global industries.  in short go to school, then an apprenticeship begins(working as a tender). look here for more info.www.offshorediver.comhttp://www.commercialdiveschool.com/diving/default.htm
Reply:Piledriver Unions have apprenticeships for divers. I think you need to be a diver already though. Check the local pilebuck union though. I'm sure there not all the same.
