Started cutting on my dozer cross beam, when cutting on it to clean old welds and bevel it doesn't cut like mild steel. The sparks are extra fine and seem to linger in the air and burn almost like a 4th of july sparkler , thats the best way I can describe it. I thought this stuff was cast steel, but now I'm not so sure. I don't think it would be cast Iron, My next guess would be some kind of Nodular Iron. It's on a JD. Question is do I have to use any special rod ? I had intended on 7018 DC."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251 Syncrowave 300 30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200 1 short hood SA250 SAM 400
Reply:I have welded on various cast steels and the only one that gave me problems was a chain case casting (catepillar 16G) it had some really strange characteristics. What I would do is call or E-mail john deere product support for welding procedures, I'm sure if they have it they'll send it.
Reply:Cast steel will cut like that sometimes. Get a gouging tip and cut out the old weld deep, and take a good 7018 and weld it. It should do fine. I did a 350 for one of my logging clients not too long ago, and haven't had any trouble from it. ~JacksonI'm a Lover, Fighter, Wild horse Rider, and a pretty good welding man......
Reply:Welded out the cross beam yesterday on the JD 350 B. All went well , looks good but every so often I heard that god awfull sharp tink, or clunk. You know the one that usually means something became 2 pieces. Looked it over pretty well and could not find anything. this tink was multiple times , any Ideas. I built it out quite heavy. I will post pics. if I can figure out how and how to resize , whatever that is."Si Vis Pacem Para Bellum"Lincoln Idealarc 250 AC/DCMillermatic 251 Syncrowave 300 30A spoolgunLincoln MP210Hypertherm 45(2) LN 25(2) Lincoln Weldanpower 225 CV(4) SA200 1 short hood SA250 SAM 400 |
