I am going to start building my welding table next week after my band saw arrives. I am planning on building it out of square tubing and angle. I will be stick welding and was wondering what wall thickness I should use for the job?
Reply:It depends.  How big of a table are you building?  How thick of a top?  I think for a welding table it's always best to go as big as you have room for.  The one I use here at work is 6' x 12' and the top is 3/4" thick.  The one I use at home is 4' x 5' and 1/2" thick.  The tubing for both is 3" x 3" x 3/16".DewayneDixieland WeldingMM350PLincoln 100Some torchesOther misc. tools
Reply:1/8 to 3/16 is plenty, IMO.
Reply:Generally, stout is better.  So bigger and as thick and as heavy as you can afford and move is the way to go.
Reply:Not less than 1/8 inch. Small diameter 7014 rods will work best, followed by 6013. Thicker steel, like 1/4 inch or thicker, stick welds OK with 6011 or 7018.
