I have some stainless steel that I just wan't to play around with and am not sure what series it is. What type of wire could I use that would be compatible with an unknown type of stainless and can I get away with using my normal argon/co2 gas or would it just end up being a big mess. Also do they make a flux core stainless wire. I won't be welding stainless much so I don't wan't to buy another bottle with a different gas if I can keep from it.
Reply:For just practicing, you can use your standard FCAW (flux core) wire or GMAW (ER70S-6) wire. It won't look pretty but it will stick.John - fabricator extraordinaire, car nut!- bleeding Miller blue! http://www.weldfabzone.com

Reply:If your practicing to get the feel for Stainless Steel you should probably use a 308 MIG wire. This will give actual accounts of what you will be dealing with. |
