Flux cored wire

I have a limiterd choice of wire where I live and I'm not overly happy with the CIG wire for my SP-170T. I am thinking about getting some different wire but it is a circus as we are 1700km from anywhere so freight is $40 and post is $16.I'm looking for a wire that has a good finish gasless, .030" dia.I have been told that Liquid-Arc is Lincoln so the wires are the same(?).Any recommendations?Clive

Reply:I don't know Australian dollars, but the money means little if you don't say how MUCH wire that buys you.
Reply:I'm not worried about the cost, which is about $Au.104 for a small 4 kg. roll plus the freight. I'm more concerned about buying a roll and then finding out it is no better than the one I am already using and being stuck with it when there might be a better one I could have got.
Reply:I have used lincoln flux-core wire that was reallly nice.  I don't know the exact model of it but slag chipped off similar to dual-shield or 7018 and had a nice shine with a rainbow effect on it.  It ran super smooth too, ran it on lots of stuff from 18guage galvanized to 5/8" mild steel and had a nice appearance and ran great on it all.I'd call the wire manufacturers if you can't find the answer here, and ask how the slag chips off and what the appearance of the weld is.  I'd imagine the nice shiny appearance wire would cost more $$, or else everyone would buy it.  But who knows, I rarely buy anything but TIG rod since my work supplies everything.

Reply:Try it and let us know what you think. I bought some FCAW wire for my little Clarke, in a 2 lb. roll, just to have if I run across some outside repairs. I'd like to try the Lincoln next. I'm not sure the brand on this wire I bought at my LWS. I'm REALLY happy with the .030 GMAW wire I bought from them in a 11 lb. roll. I'll check the brand names and report back. Reply:I just ordered a roll of 1/16 NR-211MP.   I will be using it next week on a trailer, I will let you know how it works.DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
