There is a job coming our way that requires welding T304 1" to 3/4" plate. It's a structure that will be used in security systems for semi trailer x ray machines. The welding will be done in 1F and 2F positions.I am looking for best way to go. What are your thoughts on Flux Core, Spray Arc, or Stick.I'm also looking into some "starting point" parameters for these processes.Any help will be greatly appreciated.Thanks!100perpenStrive for the perfect weld!!!
Reply:Something that thick i would stick, but thats just my personal opinion. Get the propper rod and bevel the material well. I would use a 1/8 rod and about 120 - 140 amps. It will run just like E7018. Good luck
Reply:I am not sure on best process, but for that thick, I would guess that stick would be a good bet especially if it were a structural weld. One thing I can say, I bet it's gonna warp a bit, so clamp the parts real solid, and spread the weld around to minimize distortion. And then, after so much work...... you have it in your hand, and you look over to your side...... and the runner has run off. Leaving you holding the prize, wondering when the runner will return.

Reply:Thank you all for your valuable feed back!!!We have the capability and qualification procedures for Spray Transfer. I would have to write a new PQR, WPS for the 1SST.SMAW would be a process not yet used on our products. Not to say we couldnt develop a procedure
but if Spray Transfer could be applied we would be ahead in the game as fat as experience, talent and qualification.I am open for suggestion on parameter to start with for the Spray Transfer.I have been raking over the D1.1 and I think Im almost there as far as PQR and WPS.I do have some concerns about Joint preparation, number of passes and test qualification. I do bend tests however 1 will require a little more power than what we use on our ¼ plates.I agree that warping will be a concern. In some of our tubular weldments we have seen shrinkage of up to 0.050. We will be using a modular fixture for this cabinet and we will allow the weldment to cool in the fixture.Any advice will be greatly appreciated.Thank you again for the advice!!100PERPENALWAYS STRIVE FOR THE PERFECT WELD
