I have a HH 140 that I bought for portability. I was considering the 180, but not everyone has 220V / 1 phase available w/o bootlegging it at the panel. I'm thinking that other guys around here may be thinking the same thing when trying to decide for their purchase between 110V and 220V, so the question is:What KW generator does it take to run a 140 size MIG and also for a 180 size. The color of tin is probably a moot issue.I beleive that my 140 uses about 2.2KW max. and that a 180 series is about 6KW. Just wondering if anyone ever uses a gen and what size they are for their particular machine.Hobart 140 Handler w/ gasHyperTherm Powermax 380 Plasmaoxy/acetylene
Reply:I run a Clarke 130EN on a 3500w generator a times. The welder runs better on the generator than it does on houshold power. The 130EN on high tap pulls 2000 watts, by my Kill-O-Watt meter.Clarke 130EN C25Lincoln 225 AC Stick(1968)Smith O/A RigHF 4X6 Red BandsawBlack & Decker Pro Chopsaw16 Speed Drill PressSpeedglas XL HelmetHarbor Freight Stuff
Reply:hi rick, ive ran my 135 off of a 5000 several times and it done just fine. (it wont run my ac tombstone).
Reply:I have a cheap Home Depot Coleman generator that is rated 8500/5500 and it runs my small welders and plasma cutters no problem. I would not buy one smaller than 5500 just for the fact you can run a good part of your house with one. Befor I moved to "Americas paridise" literarly 2 weeks before there was a masive ice storm and no power for 2 weeks. I had just bought this generator on sale a week befor and it ran all the lights tv's and hot water heater and one 1500wat heater for 8 hours on a fingle tank. Just something to consider.
