Many of you know that both the rangers and bobcats are available with 480 3 phase aux power. Has any any of you use the option? If so what is the largest motor that you've ran off of them? I have to buy a welder for a new facility or buy a new one for me and send them my used welder. Well, that's a no brainer. If these machines could start and run a 10 hp compactor or baler we would buy one, otherwise I'll be buying Ranger GXT, Ranger 250 or Bobcat 250. These compactors only pull a full load for a few seconds during a 1-1 1/2 minute cycle.
Reply:According to the engine driven welder section of the Radnor Products catalog (Airgas) a high torque 10HP motor runs on 10700 watts but has a startup requirement of 46700 watts.Even the 7 1/2 HP high torque requires 35000 at startup according to the same chart.Anything worth doing is worth doing RIGHT
Reply:Hello from Missouri. I am from Marshfield just east of Springfield. I have done a little deer and hog hunting in your area. On the the point. I have a Bobcat 3 that I use everyday I run my Miller Matic 350P with no trouble and a friend has a 11hp compresor that we ran one day for sand blasting and we had no trouble. I do not have a single complaint on this machine. I run up to 3/16" rod with a little power to spare. I get decent econimy from it. If im using the 3phase to MIG weld I use about half the gas as stick welding. Thursday I loged 6 hours welding on aluminum non stop and burned about 1/4 of a tank if im stick welding 3/16 rods like on Wendsday I had 4 hour solid and used just over half a tank. Keep in mind my 350p is inverter based but will pull 11,000 watts wide open. I think the Bobcat will do just fine for your need and a better price in my book. Airgas out of Springfield did me ok when I was there but if you dont mind ordering consider uswedling.com. Call and ask for Joe they will take care of you. Steel Thunder Welding LLC.
