Well I am getting a flux core welder that can do both solid wire and flux core.Just wondering what advantages (including cost) have over each other. Because I would rather not buy a bottle of gas for my welder if flux core doesn't make a noticeable difference from solid wire?Let me know all pros and cons of each, thanks.
Reply:Each process has its use.  Its tough to weld body panels with flux core, but it can be done. (just like with stick).  MIG is cleaner, makes a better looking weld.In a small machine, flux core burns a little hotter, but you still can't weld much over 1/4" with a 110 volt machine.Do a search, its been discussed many times. For me if its windy, self shielded (flux core).  Inside MIG.  SOOO you should have both DavidReal world weldin.  When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:could you explain what it is you intend on welding. what grades and thicknesses. what end uses.
Reply:For deposition rate, flux core.  For thin material, hard wire with gas is the best route.   JohnSMAW,GMAW,FCAW,GTAW,SAW,PAC/PAW/OFCand Shielding Gases.  There all here. :
