Looking to help in SoCal

I guess thsi is the right forum, if not, Mods please move it.Here's the deal, I'm ordering my new tig macine soon, and all the places I've talked too tell me that they drop ship straight from Lincoln, now the problem is that they can't tell me for sure if the delivery truck will have a lift-gate or not. If it's a lift-gat then it's no problem for me to just pull it off the platform with either a moving dolly or with the Disco. However it it's a panel van or a flat-bed, I'm screwed, as I don't have a fork-lift and nobody is home durring the day to help me lift it off, so I'm looking for somebody with a shop that can take delivery for me, and use their forklift or crane to put it on my tailer, once it's on ther I can easily manhandle it into my garage, I'd be happy to pay you a couple bucks for your trouble and hook you up with whatever your favorite beverage is. Not 100% sure I'll need the help, but checking around before I decide how I'm going to do this.Anybody picked a machine up at Lincolns SoCal wearhouse? Reply:what about making a mini-crane-type setup? if you were to make a small A-frame system, with a multiple-pully setup, i bet you could do it... back the truck up to the garage, hook up the pullys, lift the rig, move the truck, lower the welder onto a dlooy and into the shop you go.just a thought. how heavy is your new toy?Later,Andy
Reply:I was thinking of a temp A frame for the front of my truck, and use my winch to lift it, but I'm looking for an easy solution first, if all else fails, move to the more complicated ideas. The other thing is if it's in an enclosed truck with a roof, not sure I want to deal with building a boom to sneak in there and lift it. although I could rent a forklift for the day for $120, and I would get to drive it around all day!!!!The unit is 250lbs, so the whole pallet should be around 300lbs, not sure I can eat enough spinache between now and then to make that happen by myself.
Reply:Ask to pick it up at the Santa Fe Springs location. I know that they have a lift there to place it on your trailer. Another idea is to be friendly to a local business that you deal with, and have them take delivery.
Reply:If you  ordered your new machine from a local welding supply shop, they should be able to take delivery for you and help you get it onto your truck.I have used my shop engine hoist many times to lift heavy welders, air compressors and other large things on and off my truck and trailer.   Look on Craig's List for a used one, they're usually about $100 on there.Another option is to build yourself some ramps out of 2x12's and weld up a flange to bolt onto the ends so they can hook onto the truck.  I originally built mine for the ATV and motorcycles, but find they are handy for moving anything with wheels under it.   Take the welder off the pallet while it's on the truck and have a buddy help you guide it down the ramps and hold it back from taking off too fast.When I ordered my HTP mig welder years ago, I picked it up at the carrier's freight depot downtown, inspected it while it was on the loading dock, and once I signed the papers, they loaded it onto my truck with a forklift.  Any carrier's freight center will have a forklift.MM350P/Python/Q300MM175/Q300DialarcHFHTP MIG200PowCon300SMHypertherm380ThermalArc185Purox oaF350CrewCab4x4LoadNGo utilitybedBobcat250XMT304/Optima/SpoolmaticSuitcase12RC/Q300Suitcase8RC/Q400Passport/Q300Smith op
