I bought a New Clarke Mig 95 welder. I wanted a cord to run it longer and read some post about different gauges. I seen 12/3 mentioned alot so I went to Lowes and bought a "Yellow Jacket" cord that is 12/3 and it is 50 feet long. A day later or so I was looking in the Clarke manual and they stated to use 12 gauage and no longer than 25feet? Im not sure why Here? Should I take the 50foot one back and get a 25 foot one? Or will the 50 feet long one I got do the job well without any adverse damage? ThanksWhitey
Reply:I would go for the 25'. If you want to go 50, you might need #10.DavidReal world weldin. When I grow up I want to be a tig weldor.
Reply:If you don't need 50' then certainly go with the 25' Less power loss the better.personally I always end up building my own extension cords when I need something that heavy. Pick up some 10-3 service cord and some heavy duty plugs. Comes out alot cheaper.Patriot Performance AutoLincoln Power Mig 255CLincoln AC-225 StickVictor Journeyman O/AQuincy QT-5 Compressor
Reply:How many amps does it draw? If you know that then you can plug your numbers into http://www.csgnetwork.com/voltagedropcalc.html and figure out if you're ok. I have a 10/3 50 ft cord for my HH187 and it works great.HH 187Miller Bluestar1EAHP AlphaTig 200X
